As I mentioned in my post about Sarah (Crook) and William Perry, much of this information comes from research done by Vivian Moore, Carl Moore Jr., Mary Lou Marshall, my parents, and my sister. I want to thank them all for their contributions to Perry family research.
The records available to us get sketchier as we work backwards on our family line. I have found it particularly difficult to fill in my data on the Crook family, but want to share what I have, thin though it may be.
We don't have a birth date for Hezekiah Crook, but it was probably about 1788 or so, possibly a bit earlier. At that time, the area the family lived was part of Virginia, but it is now in Kentucky. Hezekiah's parents were Absalom Crook and Mary Ann Paffe. The first mention we have found for Hezekiah is in his father's will dated 25 May 1803. If our birth estimate for Hezekiah is correct, he would have been about 15 years old.
I wonder, however, if this birth date estimate is a bit too late. There was a Hezekiah Crook who married an Elizabeth Yates in April 1801 in Madison Co., Kentucky. If this is 'our' Hezekiah, then he must have been born at least by 1783 or so. I doubt he married Elizabeth when he was 13. If this is our Hezekiah, his first wife most likely died since he remarried in 1807. Note that a John Crooke witnessed the document; our Hezekiah had a brother named John. More research is needed to determine if this is indeed our man.
He married Elizabeth Johnson, daughter of Jesse Johnson and Elizabeth Lewis, on 14 March 1807. He was about 19. The notes of Vivian Moore state: "Hezekiah Crooke and Zachariah Crooke bound for marriage of Hezekiah Crook and Elizabeth Johnson, 14 March 1807. Consent of her father, Jesse Johnson." A Madison Co., Kentucky marriage record shows they were married in March 1807, but does not note the day. The ministers name looks to be something like Tribbet.

Carl Moore's Notes for Elizabeth follow: "Notes of Vivian Moore identified this individual as 'Sarah Elizabeth Johnson'. (No source was given). Record has been changed in view of marriage license data. Oldest female in Hezekiah Crooke household was 40-50 yrs of age in 1830 and 50-60 in 1840 (see U.S. Census of Franklin Co. KY). Based on assumption that this individual was Hezekiah's wife, her birthdate has been estimated based on this information. Virginia birthplace of Elizabeth Johnson is taken from daughter Martha's marriage license, a photocopy of which is in files of Vivian Moore. Per CEM, Jr research at Newberry Library: Ky marriage bonds-- Madison County KY: Crooke, Hezekiah and Elizabeth Johnson -- March, 1807 (page 108). A more complete marriage record is found in the files of Vivian Moore: Hezdhiah Crooke and Zachariah Crooke bound for marriage of Hezekiah Crook and Elizabeth Johnson, 14 Mar 1807. Hezekiah is found in Madison Co., Kentucky in August 1808 when he and his brother Zachariah execute a deed with their mother, Mary Ann, to a man named Green Clay. He is found on the 1810 census in Shelby Co., Kentucky; on the 1820., 1830 and 1840 censuses in Franklin Co., KY. Franklin Co. was created from part of Shelby Co., so he may not have moved at all.
Hezekiah and Elizabeth had nine or ten children. We know of these: Jonathan L. born 1808; Huldah born about 1812; Jesse J. born 1816; Martha Bell born 1818; Robert born 1820; William G. born 1823; Sarah Paine born 1824; Silas Fountain born 1826; and Jones Hezekiah born before 1830.
Elizabeth (Johnson) Crook apparently died about 1841, but no primary source has been found.
We don't know Hezekiah's exact death date, but his estate was probated 2 December 1843, so he probably died in November 1843. Silas Farmer, husband of Huldah Crook, was named administrator, so Hezekiah apparently left no will.
While we don't know where Hezekiah was buried, we have this tidbit: A "Crook Family Grave Yard" was in existence in 1877 according to a Franklin Co. Deed dated Jan., 1877 and recorded at pp. 26-27 of unknown vol: "This indenture between J.G. Farmer & Mary E. (?) Farmer (his wife), James D. Farmer & Amanda Farmer (his wife), J.P. Sargent & Ann E. Sargent (his wife), George M. Farmer & Emma Farmer (his wife), Silas F. Aubrey & Nannie Aubrey (his wife) and Jose Aubrey all of the county of Franklin and State of Kentucky of the first part and H.C. Dunegan of the County of Franklin and State of Kentucky of the second part, Witnesseth... the parties of the first part hereby sell, convey and confirm unto the party of the second part and his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land situate and lying in the County of Franklin, State of Kentucky, on or near the waters of South Benson Creek containing about sixty four and one half acres more or less and known as the "old Crook" farm, less thirty six and one half acres which was allotted to J.P. Sargent and wife, and less also nine acres and two rods bought by Thomas Farmer from S.F. Crook (the original Crook place having been 110 acres). And the land herein(?) and hereby conveyed to party of second part is more particularly described and bounded in a Deed dated 1869 from Farmer's heirs to Farmer's heirs, etc in Deed Book No. 11, page 110 in Franklin County Clerks Office which last named Deed was made by order of, and approved by Franklin Circuit Court, in case of Farmers heirs vs Farmers heirs - But parties of the first part hereby expressly reserve from and out of the land herein above conveyed the spot or parcel of ground known as the old Crook family Grave Yard, containing about five or six graves..." Dated 15th July, 1875.
