As I was sorting through photos of my grandmother & her family, I came across the picture above. I had seen it before; it is my grandmother, Georgia Licher with her father, Albert Licher, and her brothers, John & Edmund Licher. Georgia was born in 1900, John was born in 1904, and Edmund was born in 1906. I estimated the picture was taken about 1907. At that time, the family was living at 1516 Louise, Anderson, Indiana.
I noticed that the picture was peeling off its backing. Then I saw writing underneath where the picture was coming off. I carefully peeled it from the backing and found that the photo had been glued to this:
It is an invitation to the wedding of Anna C. Weasel to Jacob Eckert, Jr., on 28 November 1906 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anderson, Indiana.
I know that my great-grandparents attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anderson. And now I know that the picture had to have been taken after November 1906, since it was glued to an invitation with that date.
I didn't recognize any of the people mentioned on the invitation, however. So I went looking for Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Weasel, their daughter, Anna C., and Jacob Eckert, Jr. Here is what I found:
Joseph P. Weasel was born in Iowa on 17 September 1859 to Philip and Lena Weasel. He married Christina Rehling in 1883. By 1900, the couple was living in Anderson, Indiana, and had the following children: Anna Catherine, George J., Maggie, and Harry. The 1910 census shows another child, Mary, and the eldest, Anna, is not with the family.
Joseph died in 1921 and Christina died in 1954. They are buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Anderson.
Their daughter, Anna, did marry Jacob Eckert, Jr. in Anderson in 1906. Anna was born 28 July 1884 in Rushville, Indiana. Jacob was born 11 May 1884 in Indianapolis; his parents were Jacob Eckert and Wilhelmina Weir. The couple had four children. Jacob died in 1962 and Anna died in 1964. They are also buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Anderson.
I didn't find any relationships between my grandmother's family and the Weasels or Eckerts. I suspect they were fellow parishioners at St. Mary's and perhaps friends. I wonder if my grandmother's famly attended the wedding?
