Edith Belle Jones, ca 1918

Edith Belle Jones, ca 1918
Born 16 August 1898 in Hankinson, Richland Co., North Dakota, Edith Belle Jones was the daughter of John Roberts Jones and his wife, Mary Elva Stilwell.  She was educated at Carleton College, Northfield, Minnesota, Class of 1921.

About 1925, according to a family story,  Edith, with her parents, John R., and Mary Elva,  traveled to California via the Panama Canal.  While on board ship, Edith met her future husband, Bill Born, who was a seaman on the ship.

An announcement in the Hankinson News was published 26 April 1928.  It follows:  "EDITH JONES ANNOUNCES MARRIAGE.  Cards were received this week announcing the marriage of Miss Edith B. Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Jones, of this city, and E. William Born at Cokato, MN., on April 7th.  The bride is instructor in the school at Cokato and will complete the term of school before joining Mr. Born at Hammond, IN., where they will make their home.  Hankinson friends extend congratulations."

The child of Edith and Bill may still be living, so I will not add any information on that individual.

Update:  Edith & Bill's daughter, Marycarol Born, died 31 March 2012.  Since she is now deceased, I will add a little about her.    She was born 7 November 1934.  She married Jack Beardsley and they had 3 known children.  She lived most of her life in the Hammond, Indiana area.

Edith and Bill lived in Hammond, Indiana for many years.  Edith was a school teacher.  She died 3 September 1962 in Hammond, Indiana.
